An accident involving a 15-year-old girl taking driving lessons from her father has resulted in a reckless driving charge for the teen, reports WTOP.com.
Authorities believe that the teenager accidently accelerated into a group of children in Ashburn, VA, on March 14, thinking the accelerator was the break pedal.
Three children were sent to the hospital as a result of the accident, including a 7-year-old who sustained serious injuries but is in stable condition. The two other injured children were released from the hospital the next day.
After the accident, the Sheriff’s Office in Loudoun County released a juvenile petition for the suspected teenager. It is not yet clear whether or not the girl holds a learning permit. The minimum age to obtain a learner’s permit in the state of Virginia is 15 ½.
